Some notes from the writer/director
JOHN MILSON

I’ve been directing and teaching both the history and the nuts and bolts of opera, operetta, musicals and cabaret for many years, at the WA Academy of Performing Arts and around Australia.  It’s a fascinating area, full of glorious music, witty and poetic words, amazing historical detail, and outrageous gossip!

For years people have been telling me to put it all onto the stage.  This will NOT be a lecture OR yet another collection of Songs From The Shows.  It will be a fast-moving night of story-telling.  The audience will meet colourful showmen like Offenbach, Gilbert and Sullivan and D’Oyly Carte, Ira Gershwin and Cole Porter, and also great performers like Ethel Merman and Lotte Lenya.  There will be famous songs and choruses of course, but also many lesser-known gems that deserve a wider audience.  PLUS dialogue scenes, anecdotes, audience involvement, and some clever children too!

There will even be a segment about Australian musicals.  I have long been a champion of these, have directed 16 of them and there are some real showstoppers!

It should all add up to a night of great fun and also of things you never knew before.
